If I could send me son there I would. Great place for your child to learn discipline and a craft and perfect it at his or her own pace.
I have been at White Tiger for over a year now and I am really enjoying it. Its real mom and pop, not a karate studio machine. Kind of like Mr. Miaggi teaching the Karate Kid vs. the aggressive bad boy school. They really try to teach to the individual. i am 46, so my schedule is hectic, but they are always accommodating. Plus the prices are great. As well, the attitude is not mystical or spiritual; the attitude revolves around building confidence and coordination.
For those not sure if they are interested in martial arts, I find Kenpo to be very much like a dance or ballet. You learn each move, attempting to perfect them, and then combine those moves into a more complex form. The Senseis will explain in detail why, physically, one movement might be preferred over another, concentrating on teaching the underlying principles so as the forms become more complex, you can anticipate and more easily grasp the next steps. And it really is an art. There is no perfect way, but a way that is perfect for you. You just need a good foundation which White Tiger provides. It can be mentally taxing and physically challenging, but it is so much more fun than a spin class or training at the gym. And for kids, it seems to really bring out the best in them. They learn concepts that will help them succeed in school and work as they get older.
Plus, Sensei Carol is a dog lover and brings Happy, her Lab mix into the studio every once in a while. So cute. Like a mascot.
I'm writing this for anyone on the fence about a studio or this studio vs another. You wont really know unless you go down and watch and talk to them. But it will be fairly apparent that you will learn more here than any other studio in town. Then you just have to decide if you want to spend your time at the gym, or learn something you can take with you down the road.
My son (age 6) trains with Sensei Carol 2+ times a week. She is absolutely incredible. My son has a ton of energy and we wanted to try to find a way to harness that, and to make him stronger. In just a few months we have seen such a positive change in him. He is learning respect, self-control, strength (of both body and mind), and he is having a ton of fun. I highly recommend Sensei Carol and White Tiger & Dragon Martial Arts for kids (and adults) of all ages!
Our daughter loves going and we love taking her! We are about 3 months in and I see my 4.5 yr old lil girl being more respectful and focused.
Excellent dojo: amazing Sensei and staff. Best in Miami for sure.
Conscientious hard-working selfless sharing teacher I admire very much I definitely recommend this school
The sensei, Carol White, is a dedicated, caring leader.
Simply a great Dojo. Very kid friendly, great after school program. Sensei Carol is a rock star!!
My son has been attending for 3 months and it feels like a lifetime! That is a sign of a great place! Thank you Sen Sei Carol for creating such a great place and family!!!
White Tiger & Dragon Martial Arts is a great place for children to grow and learn no only self-defense techniques, but also life-valuable skills such confidence, respect, responsibility.
Sensei Carol is a great trainer, she treats kids as mature individuals and they quickly respond by understanding the importance of working hard and being disciplined.
She is very punctual when picking kids for after-school care.
My kids have been going to her classes for the last 5 years. They are still eager to go to every class as if it was first time. The have developed a family-like atmosphere and kids appreciate hanging out with their friends in a positive place.
Sensei works with each kid and family to make her classes affordable. She can also pin-point talent and develop the skills of children that are commited to martial arts. my kids have competed in several tournaments successfully; I give credit to the children's commitment and of course Carol and other Senseis who work hard on training the kids.
I registered my children to other summer camp this year and had to take them out because they really wanted to come to the dojo.
'Yes, there is a dog. He is sweet and well-mannered. The older kids take him out to walk and play. I cant have a pet at home, so my daughter treats it as her own dog. He does not do his need inside the dojo, as suggested by an earlier review.
Although other dojos may have strict schedules, different-age groups and give black belts withing a year; White Tiger & Dragon Martial Arts is a place where students come from the essence of Martial arts (discipline, respect and self-defense) without all the pricey, fancy and needless add-ons I see in other places.
Great place to train and learn martial arts. Sensei White works with her students at a personal level, she will make sure to work with your budget too so that you don't miss this great experience... It is a very enjoyable enviroment not like other martial art places that i've been to. Family friendly gym/dojo my kids train kenpo karate and grappling after school and i train at nights jiu jitsu and grappling as well as self defense. Highly recommend this place and their expertise!!!
I have been doing this for four years and I kids to have the experience that I had
If I could, I'd leave 10 stars.
Tonight was my first night of kickboxing class. I had the opportunity to watch Sensei Carol and her team with the kids before my class. It was so inspirational. Unfortunately, when my class started I dislocated my shoulder and needed medical attention. They could have easily left me to figure out my own way to the ER, but they were so caring; Carol drove me there, stayed with me during the entire treatment, and then helped me get home. They truly are a compassionate group of people who considers everyone that goes there to be family. I can't wait to be healed so I can go back to this amazing group of people. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
We waited until our kids could swim, bike and Skateboard well before we committed to another life long skill we feel they need: meditation and martial arts. We had known about Sensei Carol's expertise, diligence, ethics and passion for kids, so once we were ready it was no question where we would go.
We are very satisfied, the kids LOVE going. We hope to attend for years as they attain confidence, Skills and the belts. They were so proud of passing into the next level that now they really are devoted to the guidance of the White Tiger Dragon team.
Amazing place! Has really help to improve my sons focus, sense of accountability and build his confidence. I highly recommend Sensei Carol and her team.
Our son loves this place. They are very casual. Very flexible and my son learns a lot of discipline there. He learnt a lot of good skills and we are very happy that they are challenging him, both mentally and physically. Definitely turned my son from a wimp to a strong child. I wished more places would be like that and not always sweet talk your child. How is your child going to be prepared to life if everyone is just telling them what the parents wanna hear? Definitely a very good choice!
My children attended White Tiger & Dragon Martial Arts over the summer. We had a great experience. They looked forward to going every day. We are continuing over the school year, and my nephew and niece are joining us. The students learn helpful lessons that can be applied in life. The instructors are very personable and helpful. We are blessed to have found White Tiger & Dragon.
" I don't know karate, but I know kar-azy, and I will use it!"
White Tiger and Dragon is a nice little family run Kenpo karate school that offers a lot more than just ass kickings. They teach karate and self defense classes to kids after school and also train future MMA superstars. They have weight training so you can get stronger and some cardio machines so you can become the lean mean fighting machine that is just yearning to come out. The owners are really good quality people and will work with anyone, no matter what the situation. The location is right off US 1 and near the metro rail station so it is easily accessible.
Personally, I'm not a fighter, I'm a lover. If I did need to train for some big karate competition in order to fight off some bullies from the Cobra Kai dojo and in turn also impress a pretty girl and perhaps get a cool car... this would be the place for me
My daughter has been taking karate with Sensei Carol for nearly 2 years now. She has developed some kick ass skills as well as the self-confidence to go through a tough tournament. She is now begining to teach and assist the younger kids--the school functions like a supportive, extended family.
The focus of the school is on real karate skills and not much on frills. The after care and summer camp is old school--loads of physical activity but a relaxed atmosphere. Often the dojo dog, Happy, will be there to greet and play with the kids. Days at the dojo belong to the kids, and the adults take over in the evening. There are also classes for seniors through the Silver Sneakers program.
My daughter learns a mix of the martial arts--american kenpo (a beautiful and complicated style), sparring, weapons (bo), and grappling. I only learned of grappling when my daughter began learning here, but the skills and confidence she has gained (she can hold her own against bigger and older girls and boys) make me a firm believer of the benefits of girls grappling.
The facility isn't fancy. White Tiger's focus is on making karate accessible to all who want to learn--Sensei makes a tremendous effort to work with families of all financial situations. The school has been able to attract down to earth, dedicated kids who work hard and play hard.
What White Tiger may lack in style it more than makes up for in substance. Sensei Carol, a highly rated black belt and Olympic trainer, has coached my son for the last year in Karate and has recently added grappling classes to the mix.
Most important for us,however, is the focus she places on education and discipline. Our son cannot train unless he reaches certain academic benchmarks she has in place and that alone makes the monthly tuition worthwhile.
On a side note the Sensei Carol also picks the kids up from their schools and brings them to Dojo during the school year.
All in all I highly recommend this Martial Arts studio to all ages and skill levels.
White Tiger & Dragon school is quite possibly the best karate school in the Southeast. Our boys have been enrolled at several different schools as we have moved around several times, but none come even remotely close to this one.
Sensei Carol is not only extremely qualified as an instructor, but her message is to the kids is amazing. What she teaches them goes way beyond the motions of the moves. She works on their mindset, their confidence and their life skills.
In a world where bullying is rampant, Carol's real world advice has prepared our kids to be able to know what to do if they ever are faced with that kind of situation. You can't put a price on that.
There are several programs available that fit every budget and schedule. The community of families in the dojo is great, the place is casual and has a unique vibe!
All around 5 stars. "*****"
You will not be dissapointed.
My son has been doing karate with Sensei Carol for the past year. First, we started at the after school program at his elementary school, and then we decided to send him directly to the dojo. Sensei picks them up from school and drives them to the dojo. What a bonus for us parents! At the dojo they do their homework supervised by one of the older kids and then, after they are done with all their school responsibilities, they do what they want to do the most at the dojo: Practice karate.
Sensei Carol is a former Olympic trainer and this woman simply knows her stuff. Although I've never practiced this sport, my son has been doing martial arts since age 4, before taekwondo and now karate. I mention this because I can compare different places and I can't complain! Sensei appears to be a little old school, a very disciplined strict woman... which is just what my son needs to become better at what he likes the most.
I'd recommend White Tiger & Dragon Martial Arts not only for the capabilities and experience that Sensei Carol brings to the table, but also because she truly makes the dojo feel like a second home for my son (including Happy, the dog, and everything!)
My son started here since he entered Kindergarten, and my wife also trains twice a week at the Dojo. Sensei Carol is very kind and a very good instructor (as viewed by how she interacts with the kids I see training). She teaches at several local schools, and runs a summer program for the kids. Obviously I like this place, as my family goes here for training, but I also feel good about the environment (you know it's a safe place).
She is a solid member of community and I support her efforts! Her pricing is also very fair and affordable. Not sure were the one "wonky" review came from, we like the place and appreciate the schools' time and effort on working with my son.
As a parent it's very rewarding to see when your kids have self esteem without their egos getting in the way. This is what both my boys have acheived since attending WT&D. Being part of this dojo is to belong to a very special family. The older kids will sometimes work with the younger kids and this is my boys favorite time. Sensei Carol trains my boys to be champs in the ring; as well as, in life. So glad we found this place!
Our son has been training with White Tiger & Dragon for over a year. His progress has been amazing. The values, discipline and pride he has gained have extended into the rest of his life. Sensei Carol and the entire training staff are dedicated and knowledgeable. I would recommend this dojo.
My son worked with sensei Carol for two yrs and she taught him many valuable lessons in addition to martial arts. I definitely recommend White Tiger & Dragon to anyone who would ask.
